![]() | Gloria McLuckie is the director at Hempstead High School . She attended Kilgore College and received her BA from East Texas State University . This is the 18th year for her to teach at the Middle School and high school level, teaching theatre and speech classes. She has taken over 20 students to the UIL State Speech Meet for the past 17 years. Her plays have appeared at the state meet for 13 years, 11 in a row. New Diana’s production of QUILTERS won the 2004 State OAP Meet along with championships in 1996, 1999, and 2000. She and her students placed 2 nd at the State OAP Meet in 1993, ’94, ’95, and ’97; 3 rd at the State OAP Meet in 1998, 2001, and 2002. Her students have received 4 State Best Actress awards, 4 State Best Actor awards, 5 Samuel French Awards, and her daughter, Azure, receiving both awards in 2004. Gloria serves on the UIL Advisory Committee for Texas Educational Theatre Association since 1994 to present. She received the Frank L. Denius Award for UIL Sponsor Excellence in 1996. In 1997 she received Upshur County Teacher of the Year, was nominated for Texas Woman of the Year in 1997, and the Disney Teacher Award in 1999 |
